The regulations mandating price transparency only require facilities to publish their pricing information in "machine-readable format," but do not mandate any particular file or data format standard. As a result, facilities have each taken their own approach to publish price transparency information.
The files may be Excel, CSV, JSON, XML, PDF, or any other electronic format. The code sets and naming conventions between files do not have to have any consistency. The name of the payers and plans are not universally defined. As a result, using the information that is published by healthcare facilities is very difficult. Amitech's Price Transparency Data Service takes all the available files, standardizes them, tracks changes over time, and delivers a unified data set to anyone who needs access to a consolidated price transparency data set.
